Do you have a signature sandwich? You know, the one people always request when they come over for lunch or the one they ask you to bring to potlucks. Or maybe you’re a sandwich experimenter and love to come up with unique sandwich creations for yourself or your family. Either way, it’s time to show off your sandwich making talents in Panera Bread’s Sandwich Showdown . The event gives home chefs and sandwich making geniuses a chance to have their creation named the best sandwich in the US.
It’s also a chance to earn some terrific prizes. The winner will take home $10,000 cash, $500 worth of Panera Bread gift cards, free Panera bagels for a year and will have their sandwich on the menu for a limited time at participating Panera Bread bakery-cafes in the United States. The top four runners-up will each receive $1,000 cash and one $150 Panera Bread gift card. The 15 remaining finalists will each win one $150 Panera Bread gift cards.
How to enter the Sandwich Showdown
You can enter your original sandwich recipe from now until October 6, 2012 online at www.TLC.com/Panera (see Official Rules for details). The site’s interactive virtual sandwich builder gives you options of Panera Bread’s toppings and ingredients that can be combined with its signature breads to create the ideal sandwich. Contestants will also be asked to tell the story behind their submission and why their entry should be named the next great legendary sandwich. “Great stories are what make the sandwiches stand out,” said Dan Kish, head chef at Panera Bread – hint, hint.
After all submissions are received, Panera Bread will narrow the field to the top 20 entries. The public will then be invited to vote online to determine the grand prize winner.
The virtual sandwich builder is a lot of fun to use. I encourage you to sit down with the kids and get their input to both the sandwich and the story. You never know what they’ll come up with, including the winning entry! Plus it’s fun to use the virtual sandwich builder to create gross-out sandwiches, which will surely get your kids giggling. Anyone for a raisin bread, bacon and cilantro jalapeno hummus sandwich? Blech!
