Directions

  1. Preparation Time: 0:30Cream butter and shortening; gradually add in sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Add in egg yolks, soda, cream of tartar, and vanilla, beating well.
  2. Gradually add in flour, mixing well. Divide dough into 4 equal portions. Color one portion red, one yellow, one green, and leave remaining dough plain. Wrap each separately in plastic wrap, and refrigerateat least 1 hour. Hand shape cookies into desired designs, or possibly roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut with 2-1/2-inch cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 min. Let cold on cookie sheets 1 to 2 min; remove to wire racks and cold completely.
  3. Yield: about 5-1/2 dozen.
  4. NOTE: You might label our Edible Craft Dough Cookies "For Kids Only"-the dough looks and shapes remarkably like the colored craft dough which children often play with, but it's totally edible. Children can hand shape the dough much like they do craft dough, or possibly they can roll and cut it with cookie cutters.
