These are VERY easy to make and I appreciate that. And they taste delicious and my kids can vary the toppings so that's also great :)I've cooked/tasted this recipe!

December 1, 2010now these are my hubbys favorite and I never make them! This sounds like a great recipe for them going to add to my cookie list !

%20and%20there%20never%20seem%20to%20be%20any%20leftovers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhich%20brings%20me%20to%20the%20subject%20of%20sugar%20cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20Thanksgiving%20is%20usually%20a%20family%20holiday%20at%20our%20house,%20we%20love%20to%20invite%20friends%20and%20neighbors%20over%20the%20day%20after%20for%20whatever%20treats%20might%20be%20left%20over.%20%20Sometimes%20they%20bring%20things%20too,%20%20and%20it%20turns%20into%20a%20day-after%20Foodie%20Swap%20Meet.%20The%20question%20I'm%20always%20faced%20with%20is%20what's%20for%20dessert????%20This%20year%20I%20know%20what%20I'm%20serving.%20Sugar%20Cookies!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20did%20I%20come%20to%20bake%20these??%20Well,%20a%20few%20weeks%20back%20I%20was%20invited%20by%20the%20Culinary%20School%20at%20Baltimore%20International%20College,%20to%20try%20out%20one%20of%20their%20recipes%20in%20my%20own%20kitchen%20and%20write%20about%20how%20it%20worked%20out.%20Since%20the%20holidays%20were%20upon%20us,%20I%20decided%20that%20what%20I%20needed%20more%20than%20anything%20would%20be%20some%20cookies.%20%20And%20since%20I'm%20not%20a%20huge%20cookie%20baker%20(Indian%20cuisine%20does%20not%20really%20feature%20cookies)%20I%20decided%20what%20better%20recipe%20to%20try%20out%20this%20time%20of%20year%20than%20one%20for%20Sugar%20Cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECookies%20have%20never%20been%20a%20happy%20memory%20in%20my%20house.%20Growing%20up,%20my%20mom%20always%20made%20butter%20cookies%20which%20could%20also%20double%20for%20skeet%20shooting%20targets.%20Seeing%20how%20these%20turned%20out%20most%20likely%20warped%20me,%20because%20nothing%20makes%20me%20more%20nervous%20than%20cookie%20baking.%20I'm%20cool%20with%20cakes,%20and%20pies%20are%20fine,%20but%20just%20don't%20wave%20that%20cookie%20sheet%20in%20my%20face.%20I'll%20freak%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20that%20I'm%20a%20total%20cookie%20virgin.%20There%20are%20basically%20two%20types%20of%20cookie%20that%20I%20make.%20Oatmeal%20raisin%20and%20biscotti.%20Beyond%20that,%20it's%20a%20total%20crap%20shoot%20as%20to%20how%20they'll%20turn%20out.%20This%20I%20thought,%20would%20be%20the%20perfect%20test%20for%20their%20recipe.%20If%20my%20cookie-challenged%20skills%20could%20turn%20out%20decent%20sugar%20cookies,%20I'd%20feel%20safe%20passing%20the%20recipe%20along.%20So%20BCI%20sent%20me%20a%20stipend%20to%20cover%20my%20cookie%20making%20costs%20and%20the%20experiment%20began.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESugar%20Cookies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20assembled%20my%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20bowl%20I%20%20mixed%20:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20stick%20of%20butter%20cut%20into%20little%20pieces%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWith%201%20and%201/4%20cups%20of%20sugar.%20I%20creamed%20them%20together%20well%20with%20my%20mixer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20far%20so%20good.%20I%20added%20in:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20egg%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4%20cup%20of%20milk%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20tsp%20of%20vanilla%20extract%20and%20I%20blended%20it%20again%20till%20everything%20was%20smooth%20and%20well%20combined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20far,%20so%20good.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20for%20the%20delicate%20part.%20I%20added%20in:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20mixed%20in%20by%20hand.%20The%20secret%20of%20these%20cookies%20as%20it%20turns%20out,%20is%20not%20to%20over%20mix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20comes%20the%20scary%20part.%20As%20a%20child%20I%20used%20to%20watch%20my%20mom%20roll%20her%20cookie%20dough%20into%20logs.%20This%20usually%20meant%20that%20hard%20doughy%20poker%20chips%20would%20follow.%20I%20have%20to%20admit,%20the%20log%20part%20brought%20back%20childhood%20cookie%20trauma.%20Okay%20I%20thought,%20here%20goes%20nothin'.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20sprinkled%20a%20little%20cake%20flour%20out%20and%20rolled%20a%20nice%20glob%20of%20dough%20into%20a%20log.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHey,%20it%20worked!%20I%20am%20rollin'%20dough.%20I%20rolled%20the%20logs%20into%20waxed%20paper%20and%20made%20little%20cookie%20dough%20firecrackers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20a%20note%20here.%20You%20can%20make%20bigger%20logs%20than%20this%20depending%20on%20the%20size%20you%20want%20your%20cookies%20to%20be.%20I%20decided%20to%20make%20little%202%20bite%20size%20cookies,%20mainly%20because%20I%20don't%20trust%20my%20rolling%20skills%20(no%20comments%20from%20the%20peanut%20gallery%20please)%20but%20now%20I%20know%20I%20can%20make%20larger%20ones.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20put%20the%20dough%20logs%20into%20the%20fridge%20to%20firm%20up%20and%20chill%20out.%20This%20recipe%20left%20me%20with%20about%204%20small%20cookie%20sized%20logs%20of%20dough.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20about%203%20hours%20I%20preheated%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20took%20the%20dough%20logs%20out%20of%20the%20fridge%20and%20started%20slicing%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20laid%20them%20on%20an%20ungreased%20cookie%20sheet%20and%20flattened%20them%20a%20bit%20with%20my%20hand.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20sprinkled%20them%20with%20some%20pretty%20pink%20sugar%20crystals%20and%20popped%20them%20in%20the%20oven%20for%20about%2020%20minutes.%20Let%20me%20tell%20you%20I%20was%20scared.%20After%20my%20Floating%20Island%20experiment,%20I%20was%20prepared%20to%20be%20baking%20these%20cookies%20for%20about%20three%20days%20to%20get%20them%20right.%20But%20to%20my%20surprise%20after%2020%20minutes%20in%20the%20oven,%20this%20is%20what%20I%20got!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESugar%20cookies!!!%20Wheee!%20I%20was%20thrilled.%20Alan%20who'd%20been%20photographing%20the%20entire%20process%20thought%20he'd%20better%20step%20in%20and%20taste%20them%20%22for%20safety%20sake.%22%20He%20kept%20on%20tasting%20them%20for%20a%20good%2015%20minutes.%20%20We%20stacked%20them,%20and%20since%20%22he%20touched%20them%22%20of%20course%20he%20had%20to%20eat%20them...%20just%20to%20be%20sanitary.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20his%20reaction.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENeedless%20to%20say%20he%20is%20a%20happy%20camper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20gave%20me%20about%2040%20sugar%20cookies.%20Thanks%20to%20the%20Baltimore%20International%20Culinary%20College%20for%20giving%20me%20this%20opportunity%20to%20work%20out%20my%20%22cookie%20issues%22.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
