Easy Parmesan Herb Bread

Serve this quick bread with an appetizer dip, butter, hummus, or tzaziki, or slice and toast for sandwiches.

It only requires one minute of kneading, and you can use dried herbs from your pantry, if you don't have fresh ones.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3 tsp. minced scallions, or 1 1/2 tsp. dried minced onions
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp. dried Italian seasoning, or 2 1/2 tsp. fresh, mixed herbs
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 3 tbs. milk
  • 2 tbs. butter, melted
  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten
  • coarse ground pepper

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 F.
  2. Mix first 7 ingredients together with half the cheese.
  3. In a second bowl, mix sour cream, milk, and butter together, fold into flour mix. Mix just to moisten.
  4. Turn onto floured board, knead one minute. Form into round loaf and place on greased baking sheet, brush with egg white.
  5. Slice a cross across the top with a knike, top with remaining cheese and ground pepper.
  6. Bake 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
