Directions
I have this deep and abiding love for deli meats and cheeses. Growing up, we always knew something was a big deal when my parents got a deli tray. Now that I’m an adult, I realize my mom was probably stressed and she knew it was something that would make everybody happy. And when it comes to easy meals, one of my favorite favorite favorite things is a sandwich made with really great meat and really fresh veggies and really amazing bread. I’m pretty easy to please.

.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPickles%20and%20sauerkraut%20(two%20more%20of%20my%20favorite%20things%20in%20the%20whole%20entire%20universe%E2%80%A6wild%20guess%20about%20whether%20I%20crave%20sweet%20things%20or%20savory%20things%20when%20I%E2%80%99m%20pregnant.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20provolone,%20creamy%20sharp%20cheddar,%20Swiss%20cheese,%20cheddar%20with%20roasted%20garlic,%20and%20white%20cheddar%20with%20horseradish%20(hello,%20roast%20beef):%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChicken%20andouille%20sausage,%20and%20Bratwursts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20got%20some%20thinly-shaved%20eye%20of%20round,%20honey-maple%20turkey,%20and%20honey%20ham%20from%20the%20deli%20counter%20as%20well%20as%20some%20pancetta%20and%20prosciutto%20ham.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20only%20do%20they%20taste%20fabulous%20(they%20really%20taste%20and%20look%20like%20like%20real%20ham%20and%20turkey%20and%20roast%20beef%20and%20corned%20beef%E2%80%93sometimes,%20that%20can%20be%20hard%20to%20find),%20but%20they%20also%20have%20many%20healthy%20options%20like%20low-sodium,%20nitrate-free,%20and%20gluten%20free%20products.%20I%20found%20mine%20at%20my%20local%20Albertson%E2%80%99s%20(where%20don%E2%80%99t%20ever%20shop%20because%20it%E2%80%99s%20hard%20to%20get%20to%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20on%20the%20other%20side%20of%20town,%20but%20between%20my%20excitement%20over%20the%20Dietz%20&%20Watson%20products%20and%20the%20fact%20that%20I%20found%20mung%20bean%20sprouts%20there,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20back,%20like,%203%20times%20in%20one%20week)%E2%80%93here%E2%80%99s%20a%20link%20that%20will%20tell%20you%20where%20you%20can%20find%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%E2%80%99re%20looking%20for%20some%20entertaining%20alternatives%20to%20a%20typical%20barbecue%20this%20summer%20(once%20we%20hit%20July,%20it%E2%80%99s%20way%20too%20hot%20to%20grill%20here.%20Unless%20it%E2%80%99s%20the%20middle%20of%20the%20night.%20And%20even%20then%E2%80%A6),%20I%E2%80%99ve%20got%20some%20quick%20and%20easy%20ideas%20using%20some%20of%20my%20favorite%20products.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20thing%20I%20made%20was%20some%20prosciutto-wrapped%20honeydew%20melon.%20Just%20take%20a%20small%20piece%20of%20prosciutto%20(a%20little%20goes%20a%20long%20way%20here)%20and%20wrap%20it%20around%20a%20chunk%20of%20honeydew%20and%20secure%20it%20with%20a%20toothpick.%20Totally%20satisfies%20my%20salty-sweet%20tooth!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESara%20and%20I%20both%20love%20pigs%20in%20a%20blanket,%20but%20I%20took%20it%20to%20the%20next%20level%20with%20these%20Andouille%20pigs%20in%20a%20blanket.%20I%20just%20cut%20each%20sausage%20in%20half%20cross-wise%20and%20wrapped%20them%20in%20dough%20(you%20could%20use%20your%20favorite%20refrigerator%20or%20freezer%20dough%20or%20use%20this%20breadstick%20and%20pizza%20dough%20recipe).%20Bake%20according%20to%20package/recipe%20directions%20for%20about%2012-18%20minutes%20(depending%20on%20the%20dough%20you%20use.)%20Serve%20with%20stone%20ground%20mustard.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%E2%80%99ve%20never%20had%20hot%20ham%20and%20cheese%20sandwiches%20with%20some%20kind%20of%20sweet%20and%20tangy%20dressing%20served%20on%20soft%20rolls,%20you%E2%80%99re%20kind%20of%20missing%20out.%20Everywhere%20I%E2%80%99ve%20lived,%20they%E2%80%99ve%20been%20staples%20of%20baby%20and%20bridal%20showers,%20usually%20with%20some%20kind%20of%20sweet%20poppyseed%20salad%20dressing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20these,%20I%20used%20high-quality%20soft%20dinner%20rolls,%20sliced%20them%20in%20half,%20and%20spread%20them%20with%20cranberry%20mustard.%20Then%20I%20put%20Swiss%20cheese%20on%20each%20half,%20some%20ham%20torn%20into%20pieces%20that%20fit%20on%20the%20roll,%20closed%20them%20up,%20and%20wrapped%20all%20th%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ee%20rolls%20in%20foil%20in%20a%20single%20layer.%20Then%20I%20baked%20them%20at%20425%20for%20about%2010-15%20minutes%20or%20until%20they%20were%20hot%20and%20melty,%20but%20you%20could%20easily%20toss%20them%20on%20the%20grill%20for%20equally%20delicious%20results.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20could%20eat%20Reuben%20sandwiches%20every%20day%20if%20I%20could%20justify%20it.%20It%E2%80%99s%20pretty%20much%20my%20go-to%20in%20any%20deli%20in%20any%20place%20in%20all%20the%20world.%20For%20these,%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20want%20them%20to%20be%20very%20big%20because%20I%20wanted%20guests%20to%20be%20able%20to%20have%20a%20little%20taste%20of%20everything%20if%20they%20wanted,%20so%20to%20make%20three%20mini%20sandwiches,%20I%20spread%20spicy%20brown%20mustard%20on%20two%20large%20slices%20of%20rye%20bread,%20topped%20the%20mustard%20with%20Swiss%20cheese,%20and%20then%20piled%20on%20the%20corned%20beef%20and%20sauerkraut.%20I%20put%20the%20larger%20sandwiches%20on%20a%20pan%20(although%20a%20panini%20press%20would%20work)%20and%20popped%20it%20in%20a%20400%20degree%20oven%20for%20a%20few%20minutes%20until%20the%20cheese%20melted%20and%20the%20sandwich%20was%20heated%20through.%20Then%20I%20sliced%20them%20into%20thirds%20and%20v%C3%B3ila!%20Three-bite%20Reuben%20Sandwiches!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20parents%20lived%20in%20Germany%20for%20a%20year%20before%20I%20was%20born,%20so%20growing%20up,%20we%20regularly%20ate%20bratwursts%20and%20sauerkraut.%20Combine%20that%20with%20my%20love%20for%20pretzel%20rolls%20(many%20grocery%20stores%20sell%20them%20frozen%20or%20in%20their%20bakery%20department,%20or%20you%20can%20make%20your%20own%20from%20this%20recipe)%20and%20we%20have%20Bratwurst%20Pretzel%20Sliders.%20I%20just%20spread%20each%20side%20of%20the%20pretzel%20roll%20with%20spicy%20brown%20mustard,%20loaded%20up%20the%20bottom%20half%20with%20sauerkraut,%20and%20topped%20them%20with%20half%20of%20a%20grilled%20bratwurst,%20cut%20in%20half%20lengthwise.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFinally,%20I%20used%20the%20maple-honey%20turkey%20and%20some%20more%20of%20the%20pretzel%20rolls%20to%20make%20hoagie%20sliders.%20I%20spread%20the%20rolls%20with%20mayo,%20added%20some%20provolone%20cheese,%20a%20leaf%20of%20crisp%20lettuce,%20a%20slice%20of%20tomato,%20a%20few%20red%20onion%20rings,%20shaved%20turkey,%20the%20Dietz%20&%20Watson%20hoagie%20dressing,%20and%20salt%20and%20pepper.%20Simple%20as%20these%20are,%20they%20may%20have%20been%20my%20favorite!%20It%E2%80%99s%20kind%20of%20crazy%20how%20really%20great%20ingredients%20can%20turn%20something%20from%20fairly%20ordinary%20to%20really,%20really%20amazing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHopefully%20that%20gives%20you%20some%20easy%20entertaining%20ideas!%20I%20know%20a%20lot%20of%20people%20are%20traveling%20this%20week,%20so%20be%20safe%20and%20have%20fun%20in%20all%20your%20travels!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20posted%20in%20partnership%20with%20Dietz%20&%20Watson,%20but%20all%20opinions,%20recipes,%20and%20ideas%20are%20our%20own.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
