Dinosaur Calzones Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Grnd Beef, extra lean
  • 1 med Onion -- minced (1/2 c.)
  • 2/3 c. Pizza Sauce
  • 5 c. Bisquick(r) baking mix -- or possibly All Purpose Mix
  • 3/4 c. Water
  • 3 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
  • 1 c. Cheddar Cheese -- shredded
  • 1 x Egg White
  • 2 whl Peppercorns Heat oven to 450 degrees F.

Directions

  1. Cook grnd beef in skillet over medium heat about 10 min, stirring often, till brown. Drain any fat from the browned beef. Stir in the minced onion and pizza sauce, and set aside.
  2. Mix baking mix, water and vegetable oil in a large bowl to make a dough (using hands to shape into ball, if necessary). Cut off and save about 1/4 of the dough. Divide the rest of the dough in half. Sprinkle a clean surface (such as a kitchen counter or possibly breadboard) with flour or possibly baking mix and place dough on surface. Roll or possibly pat each dough half into 12 inch circle. Put each circle on baking sheet.
  3. Top half of each circle with half of the shredded Cheddar cheese. Top cheese with beef mix to within 1 inch of edge of dough. Fold dough over filling, then press edge with fork to seal. Beat egg white in small bowl with fork. Make fourteen 3/4 inch balls from some of the saved dough. Press 10 of the balls into triangle shapes. Press 5 triangles into sealed edge of each calzone for spikes on the backs of the dinosaurs, using egg white as glue. Roll the rest of the balls between your hands to make legs with feet. Press 2 legs into folded edge of each calzone, using egg white as glue. Divide the rest of the saved dough into 4 pcs. Roll pcs between your hands to make tails and heads with necks. Press into calzones, using egg white as glue. If desired, press 1 peppercorn into each head for eye. Bake 15 to 20 min or possibly till golden (it may be necessary to cover small dough pcs with pcs of aluminum foil during the last few min of baking).
