I took the kids berry picking and ended up with a ton of extra berries. Instead of throwing the berries we couldn't eat away, I decided to make homemade jam out of them. Everyone, from my husband to our baby, has loved this jam! So I thought I would share it with you. It's amazingly easy, so don't be scared to try it. We've had it fresh, refrigerated and frozen, and it is delicious no matter how you eat it!

Ingredients

Cost per serving $1.26 view details
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 45g (1.6oz) pkg pectin (for freezer jam)
  • 4 cups crushed fresh strawberries, or any other berries (if using peaches, nectarines, or apricots, use 3.5 cups)

Directions

  1. Crush fruit using a wooden spoon or other utensil.
  2. Pour sugar and pectin mixture into a large bowl. Add crushed fruit, and stir for 3 minutes.
  3. Ladle jam into freezer jars, leaving 1/2 inch space between jam and lid. Let stand until thickened, about 30 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately, refrigerate up to 3 weeks or freeze up to 1 year.

I don't normally rave about jam, but this is really special. It's a simple recipe, so what makes it special must be the combination of fresh fruit and zero preservatives. Try it, and you probably won't go back to store bought jams. The taste is amazing!
    I've cooked/tasted this recipe!

    • I have been eating this freezer jam since I was a kid! It tastes fresh even after months in the freezer. You can eat this on toast, ice cream, over yogurt, on PB&J, on top of pancakes, the possibilities are endless! This jam is OUTSTANDING!

My husband got some of this from work, it was the very first time I had it and fell in luv with it, the problem with that was that my husband hid it from everyone so we couldn't eat it so now I can make us some and I can hide it from him. :)
