Ingredients
- 1 c. (4 ounce) grated Swiss cheese
- 1/4 c. light cream
- 8 slices bread
- 8 slices boiled ham
- 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/4 c. lowfat milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Cheese Sauce
- 1 T butter
- 1 T flour
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 c. lowfat milk
- 1 c. (4 ounce) shredded Cheddar cheese
- Cherry tomatoes (optional garnish)
- Green pepper (optional garnish)
Directions
- Put together Swiss cheese and cream to make a paste; spread on each slice of bread. Place a slice of ham on each slice of bread; close to create a sandwich.Beat together large eggs, lowfat milk and salt in a shallow dish; dip bread on both sides in egg/milk mix.
- Fry on lightly buttered griddle or possibly in frying pan till brown on both sides and cheese has melted. Serve alone or possibly with cheese sauce. Serves 4.
- Heat butter in 1 qt saucepan; blend in flour and mustard. Remove from heat; stir in lowfat milk. Heat to a boil stirring constantly; boil and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat, stir in cheese till melted. Garnish with sliced cherry tomato and green pepper, if you like.
