- 4 slices of Bacon. diced
- 1 Onion, diced
- 1 lb Hamburger (or Ground Bison)
- 14.5 oz can Diced Tomatoes
- 8 oz can Tomato Sauce
- 1 Bell Pepper, chopped
- 1 lb Medium Shell Pasta - Boiled
- 1 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- Parmigiano-Reggiano for serving
- Corning Ware 5 quart (A-5-B) or 4 quart (A-84-B/P-84-B)

,%20the%20Electromatic%20Skillet%20(E-1310)%20in%20all%20White.%20%20Mom%20used%20that%20Spice%20o'%20Life%20dish%20a%20LOT.%20%20%20One%20of%20the%20things%20she%20would%20regularly%20make%20in%20it,%20was%20%22Goulash%22...%20at%20least,%20what%20I%20was%20told%20was%20%22Goulash%22.%20%20Thus%20my%20confusion%20as%20an%20adult,%20when%20I%20ordered%20Goulash%20in%20a%20Hungarian%20restaurant%20and%20received%20a%20thick%20&%20chunky%20beef%20stew%20laden%20with%20potatoes%20and%20liberally%20laced%20with%20paprika,%20but%20totally%20lacking%20anything%20resembling%20cheese.%20%20Quite%20delicious,%20I%20might%20add,%20but%20NOT%20at%20ALL%20what%20I%20was%20expecting.%20%20Suffice%20it%20to%20say,%20that%20though%20my%20family%20continues%20to%20refer%20to%20this%20as%20a%20%22Goulash%22%20(and%20there%20are%20versions%20that%20DO%20contain%20pasta),%20it%20falls%20far%20short%20of%20it's%20authentic%20Hungarian%20counterpart.%20%20After%20all,%20this%20dish%20does%20not%20even%20contain%20paprika?!?!?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20my%20research,%20I%20have%20come%20to%20the%20conclusion%20that%20this%20%22American%20Goulash%22%20is%20sort%20of%20related%20to%20Johnny%20Marzetti%20(of%20Ohio%20fame),%20though%20not%20baked%20in%20the%20oven%20as%20a%20casserole.%20%20Thus,%20it%20is%20sort%20of%20a%20cross%20between%20the%20aforementioned%20Midwestern%20favorite%20and%20a%20Slumgullion.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMom's%20American%20%22Goulash%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20your%20Corning%20Ware%20A-5-B%20(or%20A-84/P-84)%20over%20medium%20flame%20and%20begin%20cooking%20the%20Bacon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20crispy%20and%20the%20fat%20has%20been%20rendered%20out,%20remove%20bacon%20to%20a%20small%20dish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20chopped%20Onion%20to%20the%20hot%20bacon%20fat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20the%20Onion%20begins%20to%20become%20transparent,%20add%20the%20ground%20Beef.%20(This%20is%20the%20point%20where%20you%20should%20begin%20boiling%20your%20Shell%20pasta%20-%20It%20usually%20takes%20about%2011%20minutes.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBreak%20beef%20up%20while%20it%20is%20cooking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20nice%20and%20browned,%20add%20the%20bacon%20back%20into%20the%20pot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20diced%20tomatoes%20and%20tomato%20sauce,%20then%20bring%20to%20a%20simmer%20and%20reduce%20the%20flame%20to%20low.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20Bell%20Pepper,%20and%20continue%20cooking%20until%20peppers%20are%20tender,%20but%20not%20mushy%20(about%205%20minutes)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20cooked%20&%20drained%20Shells%20and%20toss%20until%20the%20Shells%20are%20well%20coated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20the%20pot%20from%20the%20flame%20and%20allow%20to%20cool%20for%205%20minutes,%20tossing%20occasionally.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20shredded%20Cheddar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToss,%20until%20sauce%20begins%20to%20take%20on%20a%20%22creamy%22%20consistency.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20sprinkled%20with%20Parmigiano-Reggiano.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhere%20is%20your%20Corning%20Ware??%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
