My friend Katie is an elementary school teacher down in FL. Katie and I go way back to my junior year of college when she (along with the guy who eventually became my fiance) got into the a cappella group I was in. Anyways, we became fast friends, and, though she's over a thousand miles away, I think of her lots :)
I made these cookies for her 3rd grade (is that right?) class. She has 18 girls in her class (no boys!) and so I was free to make these as girlie as i wanted. Yippie!
The recipe that i used was my standard Sugar Cookie Recipe that I will use till the day I croak. I love it, it's just one of those things that you can always count on.

%20got%20into%20the%20a%20cappella%20group%20I%20was%20in.%20%20Anyways,%20we%20became%20fast%20friends,%20and,%20though%20she's%20over%20a%20thousand%20miles%20away,%20I%20think%20of%20her%20lots%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20these%20cookies%20for%20her%203rd%20grade%20(is%20that%20right?)%20class.%20%20She%20has%2018%20girls%20in%20her%20class%20(no%20boys!)%20and%20so%20I%20was%20free%20to%20make%20these%20as%20girlie%20as%20i%20wanted.%20%20Yippie!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20that%20i%20used%20was%20my%20standard%20Sugar%20Cookie%20Recipe%20that%20I%20will%20use%20till%20the%20day%20I%20croak.%20%20I%20love%20it,%20it's%20just%20one%20of%20those%20things%20that%20you%20can%20always%20count%20on.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20and%20here%20are%20the%20lovely%20little%20cookie%20cutters%20I%20chose%20from%20my%20growing%20collection.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20here%20they%20are%20after%20baking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrosting%20time!%20%20A%20note%20about%20frosting:%20for%20cookies,%20I%20tend%20to%20just%20get%20the%20store-bought%20kind.%20%20But%20even%20at%20the%20store,%20there%20are%20a%20million%20different%20types.%20%20The%20kind%20you%20wanna%20get%20is%20the%20regular%20kind.%20%20The%20whipped%20kind%20is%20not%20ideal%20for%20cookies%20and%20adding%20food%20coloring.%20%20And%20the%20reduced%20fat%20kind%20ends%20up%20being%20very%20glue-like,%20and%20are%20a%20complete%20mess.%20%20Remind%20me%20to%20show%20you%20pictures%20of%20our%20Christmas%20cookies%20from%20a%20few%20years%20ago.%20%20Yeah.%20%20We%20won't%20be%20using%20reduced%20fat%20frosting%20for%20cookies.%20%20Just%20put%20less%20frosting%20on%20it%20if%20you're%20concerned%20about%20calories.%20%20Right.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20are%20the%20colors%20I%20decided%20to%20work%20with.%20%20Yellow%20of%20course%20:)%20%20What%20kind%20of%20Sunny%20wouldn't%20use%20yellow%20frosting?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPink.%20%20Clearly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlue,%20because%20it's%20beautiful.%20%20I%20added%20a%20touch%20of%20green%20to%20it%20to%20make%20it%20a%20little%20more%20oceany.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20purple,%20which%20is%20always%20tricky%20to%20get.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20best%20way%20to%20decorate%20shaped%20cookies%20is%20to%20put%20a%20glob%20of%20frosting%20in%20the%20middle,%20and%20work%20it%20out%20toward%20the%20edges%20with%20the%20flat%20part%20of%20your%20knife.%20%20I%20use%20plastic%20knives%20so%20I%20can%20toss%20them%20if%20i%20really%20don't%20feel%20like%20washing%20them%20afterwards.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20wanna%20see%20the%20lovelies?%20%20Here%20are%20the%20Reach%20for%20the%20Stars%20cookies!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHehe,%20aren't%20they%20fun?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20how%20sprinkles%20just%20add%20so%20much,%20even%20if%20it's%20like%20a%20little%20dash%20of%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20now,%20the%20Let%20Your%20Knowledge%20Blossom%20cookies!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOh%20the%20nerdiness%20of%20it%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20shape%20is%20particularly%20tough%20to%20decorate.%20%20You%20have%20to%20kind%20nudge%20the%20frosting%20into%20every%20petal.%20%20But%20I%20hate%20when%20the%20frosting%20goes%20all%20the%20way%20to%20the%20end.%20%20So%20it's%20this%20constant%20tension%20between%201)%20my%20obsessive-compulsiveness%20and%202)%20frosting%20physics.%20%20Ah%20well.%20%20They%20look%20okay%20enough.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20wrote%20a%20little%20note%20for%20the%20class.%20%20My%20friend's%20last%20name%20was%20erased%20for%20confidentiality's%20sake.%20%20Sorry,%20that's%20how%20you%20get%20if%20you%20work%20in%20Human%20Subject%20Research,%20alright?%20%20But%20yes,%20here's%20the%20note.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20chortled%20in%20my%20joy%20as%20i%20thought%20up%20the%20names%20for%20the%20cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20when%20kids%20call%20me%20Miss%20Sunny.%20%20Over%20the%20summer%20when%20I%20did%20research%20in%20HK,%20and%20I'd%20go%20into%20the%20kindergarten%20classrooms,%20the%20kids%20would%20shout%20%22Miss%20Sunnnnnny!!!%22%20and%20it%20made%20me%20so%20warm%20and%20happy%20inside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyways,%20cookies.%20%20Yes,%20cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20making%20these,%20I%20sent%20them%20along%20by%20putting%20them%20in%20a%20ziplock%20bag...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20wrapping%20them%20in%20bubble%20wrap%20and%20putting%20them%20in%20a%20box.%20%20I%20think%20they%20made%20it%20there%20okay.%20%20I%20hope.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20this%20your%20weekend%20project!%20%20Think%20of%20a%20person%20or%20persons%20who%20might%20need%20a%20little%20special%20treat%20or%20need%20a%20little%20extra%20love.%20%20These%20cookies%20have%20a%20great%20shelf%20life,%20and%20they%20taste%20really%20great%20cold,%20or%20dunked%20in%20coffee%20in%20the%20morning,%20or%20with%20a%20frosty%20glass%20of%20milk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHave%20a%20great%20weekend!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
