Ingredients

  • 3 c. Lowfat milk
  • 3 c. Day old bread, in 1-inch cubes
  • 1/2 c. Sugar
  • 1/4 c. Butter, melted
  • 3 x Large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/4 tsp Almond extract, (1/4 to 1/2)
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 2 x Hard, ripe Northwest Comice pears, pared, cored and sliced Cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar

Directions

  1. Heat lowfat milk till bubbles form around edge of pan; pour over bread and cold to lukewarm. Combine sugar, butter, Large eggs, almond extract and salt; mix well and stir into bread mix. Line buttered 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with1/2 of pear slices; pour bread mix over pears. Arrange remaining pear slices over top. Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. Bake at 325 degrees F. 50 to 55 min or possibly till knife blade inserted near center comes out clean.
  2. Always be sure to use ripe pears.
