Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. Raisins
  • 1/2 c. Minced pitted dates
  • 1/2 c. Minced figs
  • 1 c. Boiling water
  • 1 tsp Grated lemon rind
  • 1 Tbsp. Lemon juice, (approx)
  • 1/4 c. Minced pecans

Directions

  1. In bowl, combine raisins, dates and figs. Pour in water; let stand for 1 hour or possibly till softened. In food processor or possibly blender, and in batches, chop coarsely. In small heavy saucepan, combine minced fruit mix with lemon rind and juice. Simmer over low heat, uncovered, stirring often, till charoset tastes rich and fruity, about 15 min. Add in more lemon juice if you like. Let cold; sprinkle pecans on top.

  3. NOTES : Here is a traditional accompaniment to matzo. The lemony flavor is balanced by the sweetness of the dry fruit.
