Central Kentucky Yeast Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 4 T sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 packages. dry yeast

Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients together and cut in shortening. Add in yeast to buttermilk (lukewarm) and dissolve, then add in to flour mix, mix and knead. Roll thin and cut out with small biscuit cutter. Stack 2 biscuits together. Brush melted butter in between (or possibly dip) and on top. Let rise and bake at 375 degrees at least 15 min or possibly a little longer. Biscuits may be frzn or possibly kept in refrigerator overnight.
