The Wisconsin State Fair is upon us once again. Over the next few days, I will be posting my spin to the great recipes connected to the "Golden Spork" Awards. The Sporkies is a Wisconsin State Fair food competition that started in 2013.
This is my spin on Flavorburst's Ice Cream "Granny Smith Caramel Apple Shake." When someone says caramel apples, you think of crunchy tart apples coated in sticky caramel. Can you imagine how incredible the liquid form is? Perfect through a straw, this easy and delicious Caramel Apple Milkshake brings you all the sweet flavor, sans the sticky fingers.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 Cups Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Slightly Softened
- 1/4 Cup Whole Milk
- 1/4 Cup Applesauce
- 3 Tbsp. Caramel Sauce
- 1/4 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 Granny Smith Apple, Peeled And Cut Into Large Chunks
- Garnish:
- Whipped Cream or 1 Scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- Salted & Roasted Peanuts, Minced
- Caramel Sauce
- Granny Smith Apple Wedges
Directions
1.
Using a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, milk, applesauce, caramel sauce, vanilla and apple chunks. Blend until smooth.
2.
Meanwhile, drizzle additional caramel sauce inside a chilled milkshake glass. Pour blended milkshake into prepared glass.
3.
Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream/ice cream, drizzle with caramel, add a sprinkle of salted peanuts. Finish it off with a crazy straw and two apple wedges stuck in the side of the glass.
Cook's Tip:
1.
You can substitute frozen yogurt and skim or 2% milk for a lower fat alternative.
2.
For an adult beverage add Apple Pie Liqueur or Schnapps.
