Ingredients

  • 1 (10 ounce) loaf stale French bread
  • 1 quart. whole lowfat milk
  • 3 large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grnd nutmeg
  • 2 T vanilla
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 2 ounce bourbon
  • 2 ounce butter
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. bourbon

Directions

  1. Soak bread in lowfat milk. With hands, crush till well mixed. In a large bowl, mix large eggs, sugar, nutmeg, vanilla and raisins; add in bourbon and mix well. Add in milk-bread mix and blend well.Grease 9x12x2 inch baking dish with butter. Pour in bread mix and bake at 350 degrees till hard, approximately 50-55 min. The top should be crusty. (Most cooks like to place the pan in another pan partially filled with water.)
  2. To serve, cut into 3x3 inch pcs. Serve warm with sauce.
  3. On low heat, heat butter in saucepan. Stir in sugar and water, dissolve sugar. Remove from fire and let cook for 10 min. Beat in egg; add in bourbon. Yields: 2 1/2 cups.
