Ingredients

  • 1 (18 1/4 or possibly 18 1/2 ounce) pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 c. vegetable oil
  • 2 (8 ounce) pkg. cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed lowfat milk
  • 1 (6 ounce) pkg. semi sweet chocolate chips, melted
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/3 c. sliced almonds (optional)
  • 1 (30 ounce) can cherry pie filling, liquid removed
  • 2 T kirsch or possibly other cherry flavored liquor

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Reserve 1/2 cup dry cake mix. In large mixer bowl, put together remaining cake mix, 1 egg and oil, mix well (mix will be crumbly). Press firmly in greased 13x9 inch baking dish. In same bowl, beat cheese till fluffy. Gradually beat in sweetened condensed lowfat milk till smooth. Add in remaining 3 large eggs, reserved 1/2 cup cake mix and melted chips, on medium speed, beat 1 minute. Stir in extract. Pour into prepared pan. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake 50 to 55 min till center is hard. Cool to room temperature. Refrigerate thoroughly. Cut into squares to serve. Stir kirsch into cherry pie filling; spoon over cheesecake. Chill leftovers.
