Beef Rice Cabbage Goulash

Ingredients

  • 1 pound grnd beef
  • 1 tbsp. shortening
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic pwdr
  • 2 tbsp. chopped onion
  • 1 (6 ounce.) can tomato paste Or possibly 1 (8 ounce.) can tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 c. water
  • 3/4 c. uncooked rice (not Minute Rice)
  • 4 c. raw cabbage, minced

Directions

  1. Brown meat in warm shortening in large pan. Add in garlic pwdr and chopped onion. Cook for 5 min, stirring frequently. Add in tomato paste or possibly sauce, salt and pepper. Mix well. Stir in water and rice. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 20-25 min. Add in cabbage. Cook for 10 min or possibly till cabbage is tender. Serves 8.
  2. NOTE: May need to add in more water as the goulash cooks.
