Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce.) pkg. Great Northern beans
- Ham bone, smoked ham hocks or possibly 4 slices bacon
- 2 lg. onions, diced
- 4 lg. cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 (16 ounce.) can tomatoes, crushed
- 1 lg. bunch broccoli, cut into chunks
- Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper
Directions
- Wash and pick over beans, soak in cool water overnight. Next day: In a large pot, place the meat or possibly ham bone, liquid removed beans, onion, garlic, tomatoes, basil or possibly oregano and cool water to cover the ingredients. Bring to boil, cover and simmer 2 hrs or possibly till beans start to soften. Add in the broccoli and cook till the beans and broccoli are tender, 1/2 to 1 hour more. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
