Ingredients

  • 6 ounce semi-sweet dark chocolate
  • 4 ounce lowfat milk chocolate
  • 2 T water
  • 1 c. butter, at room temperature
  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 T orange juice
  • 1 T grated orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk or possibly lowfat sour cream
  • Powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Preparation time: 20 min. Baking time: 1 hour.
  2. In medium saucepan, heat together chocolate and water, stirring constantly.In large bowl, cream together butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Add in large eggs, one at a time. Blend in orange juice and orange peel. Stir in cooled chocolate.
  3. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Add in flour mix alternately with buttermilk or possibly lowfat sour cream to egg and butter mix, blending well. Pour batter into a well-greased and lightly floured tube pan, about 10 min. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or possibly till pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  4. Let cake cool in pan for 15 min. Turn out onto rack and let cake cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve with fresh fruit, if you like. Makes 1 cake, 8 servings.
