  • 1 and 1/2 lb cipollini onions
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 4 Tbs unsalted butter
  • 1 Tbs water
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • salt and pepper to taste
