Let me introduce to you one of our favorite local restaurants in Jackson, so far. Babalu Tacos & Tapas restaurant is located in the historic Fondren neighborhood, serving Spanish style tapas and gourmet tacos with a Southern flair.

%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20me%20introduce%20to%20you%20one%20of%20our%20favorite%20local%20restaurants%20in%20Jackson,%20so%20far.%20%20Babalu%20Tacos%20&%20Tapas%20restaurant%20is%20located%20in%20the%20historic%20Fondren%20neighborhood,%20serving%20Spanish%20style%20tapas%20and%20gourmet%20tacos%20with%20a%20Southern%20flair.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell%20before%20our%20first%20visit,%20we%20had%20kept%20hearing%20from%20friends%20that%20we%20needed%20to%20try%20this%20place.%20%20We%20finally%20made%20it%20there%20for%20our%20first%20time%20early%20last%20year,%20during%20our%20first%20date%20after%20Simon%20was%20born.%20We%E2%80%99ve%20been%20back%20a%20couple%20of%20times%20and%20have%20loved%20every%20experience.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBabalu%20diners%20are%20welcomed%20with%20a%20charming%20exterior,%20and%20what%20my%20husband%20likes%20to%20call%20a%20%E2%80%9Chipster%E2%80%9D%20interior.%20%20%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20actually%20industrial,%20in%20my%20opinion,%20and%20fun.%20%20Arrive%20early,%20because%20the%20wait%20can%20be%20long%E2%80%A6like%202%20hours%20long.%20%20I%20did%20receive%20a%20tip%20that%20you%20can%20call%20the%20restaurant%20when%20you%E2%80%99re%20on%20your%20way%20there%20and%20get%20your%20name%20on%20the%20waiting%20list%20(if%20there%20is%20a%20list%20started).%20%20This%20should%20shorten%20the%20time%20you%20have%20to%20wait%20to%20be%20seated%20after%20you%20arrive.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20food%20is%20fresh%20and%20the%20menu%20is%20unique.%20%20The%20goal%20at%20Babalu%20is%20that%20you%20order%20to%20share.%20%20We%20like%20to%20order%20a%20variety%20of%20tacos%20(as%20pictured%20above),%20but%20our%20favorites%20right%20now%20are%20the%20Carne%20El%20Cerdo%20Taco%20and%20the%20Baba%20Burger.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServed%20inside%20house-made%20tortillas,%20the%20Carne%20El%20Cerdo%20Tacos%20(pictured%20above)%20are%20stuffed%20with%20a%20smokin%E2%80%99%20pork%20belly%20slathered%20with%20a%20chipotle-citrus%20BBQ%20sauce,%20and%20topped%20with%20roasted%20peanut%20slaw%20and%20cotija%20cheese.%20%20We%20order%20a%20plate%20of%20three%20to%20share%20every%20time,%20which%20means%20the%20two%20of%20us%20are%20usually%20battling%20over%20the%20third%20one.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20tried%20the%20Baba%20Burger%20during%20our%20last%20visit%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20weird%20to%20me%20that%20a%20Spanish%20tapas%20restaurant%20is%20now%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20places%20to%20go%20for%20a%20burger.%20%20Listen%20to%20this%20and%20tell%20me%20you%E2%80%99re%20not%20dying%20to%20try%20it:%20Aspen%20Ridge%20Natural%20Angus%20Beef,%20roasted%20Roma%20tomatoes,%20caramelized%20onions,%20white%20cheddar,%20avocado,%20applewood%20smoked%20bacon,%20and%20chipotle%20aioli.%20%20All%20sandwiched%20between%20a%20sweet%20sourdough%20bun.%20%20Description%20is%20straight%20from%20their%20menu,%20but%20reviewed%20directly%20from%20my%20taste%20buds.%20%20If%20you%20like%20gourmet%20burgers%20with%20layers%20of%20flavor,%20you%20will%20love%20this!%20%20Order%20the%20small,%20though.%20It%E2%80%99s%20plenty%20large%20enough.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Queso%20Blanco%20Dip%20is%20not%20what%20we%20were%20expecting%20as%20we%20are%20used%20to%20being%20served%20a%20bowl%20of%20creamy%20dip.%20%20Instead,%20their%20white%20cheese%20dip%20is%20made%20of%20real%20Mexican%20cheeses%20resulting%20in%20a%20thicker%20and%20stringy%20cheese.%20%20Although%20I%20usually%20prefer%20a%20typical%20Mexcian%20restaurant%20white%20cheese%20dip%20over%20pretty%20much%20anything,%20Babalu%E2%80%99s%20Queso%20Blanco%20Dip%20is%20delightful!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGuacamole%20is%20made%20fresh%20at%20your%20table%20where%20you%20can%20customize%20the%20ingredients%20you%20want%20included.%20%20As%20far%20as%20the%20other%20appetizers%20listed%20on%20the%20menu,%20I%20heard%20recently%20I%20need%20to%20try%20the%20Black%20Eyed%20Pea%20Hummus.%20It%20will%20be%20difficult%20for%20me%20to%20give%20up%20the%20Queso%20Blanco%20and%20the%20Guac,%20but%20next%20time%20you%20better%20believe%20I%E2%80%99m%20trying%20that%20hummus!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20not%20much%20of%20a%20drinker,%20but%20there%20is%20a%20good%20selection%20of%20cocktails,%20beer%20and%20wine.%20%20I%20did%20have%20the%20White%20Sangria%20during%20one%20dinner%20and%20really%20enjoyed%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMost%20of%20all,%20we%20love%20the%20atmosphere%20at%20Babalu.%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20great%20place%20for%20many%20occasions,%20such%20as%20date%20night,%20family%20outings,%20outdoor%20dining%20and%20to%20impress%20your%20out%20of%20town%20friends.%20%20You%20will%20be%20tickled%20with%20the%20projected%20film%20on%20the%20wall%20rolling%20silent%20reruns%20of%20%E2%80%9CI%20Love%20Lucy%E2%80%9D%20episodes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Another%20tip,%20Fondren%20District,%20where%20Babalu%20is%20located,%20is%20one%20of%20the%20locations%20in%20Mississippi%20where%20the%20movie%20%E2%80%9CThe%20Help%E2%80%9D%20was%20filmed.%20%20Before%20or%20after%20dinner%20at%20Babalu,%20jot%20across%20the%20street%20into%20Brent%E2%80%99s%20Drugs,%20a%20soda%20fountain.%20%20Then%20walk%20up%20the%20street%20to%20the%20stretch%20of%20shops%20on%20North%20State%20Street.%20%20You%E2%80%99ll%20find%20it%20all%20familiar%20if%20you%20saw%20the%20movie.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%E2%80%99re%20in%20the%20Jackson,%20MS%20area%20and%20looking%20for%20a%20unique%20and%20fresh%20dining%20experience,%20try%20Babalu%20Tacos%20&%20Tapas.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBabalu%20Tacos%20&%20Tapas%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E622%20Duling%20Ave.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJackson,%20MS%2039216%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMap%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E601-366-5757%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
