Authentic Italian Tomato Sauce Recipe

  • 1 can crushed Italian tomatoes - (24 ounce)
  • 1 sm can tomato paste
  • 1 sm onion finely minced
  • 2 x garlic cloves peeled, chopped
  • 1 lb grnd sirloin - (to 1 1/2 lbs)
  • 2 tsp sugar Salt to taste Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp dry basil
  • 1 x bay leaf
  • 1 tsp celery salt
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
  • 1 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Brown the onion and garlic in the extra virgin olive oil and margarine, then add in the grnd sirloin. Mix well while browning, separating the meat with a fork. Do this till the meat is well-browned, then add in tomatoes and tomato paste.
  2. Over low heat, add in salt and pepper to taste, basil, sugar, beef bouillon cube, celery salt and bay leaf. Cook over low heat for about one hour. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking. Remove bay leaf before serving.
  3. This recipe yields sauce for 6 servings.
  4. Comments: Reduced-sodium tomatoes, paste and bouillon can be used to lower the amount of sodium.

    if you knew what you were doing you would omit 1 sm onion finely minced
    2 tsp sugar
    Salt to taste
    Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste
