Last week I went to Austin, Texas for a blogging event with Old El Paso. We are partnering with Old El Paso this year so it was exciting to meet the other bloggers, the Old El Paso team, and learn more about their products.
I went to Austin last year for the first time and instantly fell in love. It is such a fun city!
We stayed at Hotel San Jose. The urban bungalow-style hotel is located on South Congress Avenue, a few blocks from downtown and in one of Austin’s favorite neighborhoods. %3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20dinner,%20we%20went%20to%20La%20Condesa,%20a%20modern%20Mexican%20restaurant.%20We%20ate,%20ate,%20and%20ate%20some%20more!%20The%20chips%20and%20fresh%20salsas%20were%20to%20die%20for%E2%80%A6and%20so%20was%20the%20Mexican%20street%20corn!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20next%20day,%20Mando%20Rayo,%20author%20of%20Austin%20Breakfast%20Tacos,%20took%20us%20on%20a%20taco%20tour.%20We%20went%20to%20four%20of%20his%20favorite%20spots%20in%20Austin:%20VeraCruz%20All%20Natural,%20Joe%E2%80%99s%20Bakery,%20Tacodeli,%20and%20Al%20Pastor.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20loved%20the%20migas%20and%20grilled%20veggie%20tacos%20at%20VeraCruz%20All%20Natural.%20I%20could%20eat%20there%20every%20day!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20watermelon%20agua%20fresca%20was%20also%20a%20winner!%20So%20refreshing!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20other%20favorite%20spot%20was%20Tacodeli.%20They%20have%20lots%20of%20vegetarian%20and%20vegan%20options.%20The%20Heather%20taco%20was%20my%20favorite-grilled%20queso%20fressco,%20refried%20black%20beans,%20guacamole,%20lettuce,%20and%20tomatoes.%20So%20tasty%E2%80%A6even%20when%20I%20was%20already%20full:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20also%20visited%20the%20farmers%20market%20to%20pick%20up%20fresh%20ingredients%20to%20make%20dinner!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20found%20some%20pretty%20produce!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20dinner,%20we%20went%20to%20the%20Silver%20Whisk%20to%20cook%20up%20a%20storm.%20We%20were%20divided%20in%20teams%20and%20were%20challenged%20to%20create%20recipes%20using%20the%20produce%20we%20bought%20at%20the%20market%20and%20Old%20El%20Paso%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJenny%20and%20I%20made%20a%20Green%20Chile%20Roasted%20Tomato%20Guacamole.%20It%20was%20down%20right%20delicious%E2%80%A6if%20I%20do%20say%20so%20myself:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20we%20had%20to%20create%20a%20sweet%20treat:)%20We%20used%20Old%20El%20Paso%E2%80%99s%20Stand%20%E2%80%98n%20Stuff%20shells%20to%20create%20a%20cinnamon%20sugar%20taco%20filled%20with%20Greek%20yogurt,%20honey,%20and%20fruit.%20Yum!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOld%20El%20Paso%20surprised%20us%20with%20special%20cupcakes.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20never%20had%20my%20face%20on%20a%20cupcake%20before:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20our%20last%20day%20in%20Austin,%20Ali%20and%20I%20met%20up%20with%20Jeanine%20from%20Love%20and%20Lemons.%20We%20went%20to%20breakfast%20at%20Elizabeth%20Street%20Cafe.%20Such%20a%20cute%20spot.%20Ali%20and%20I%20shared%20the%20vegetarian%20Breakfast%20Banh%20Mi.%20It%20had%20egg%20whites,%20mushrooms,%20and%20fresh%20chiles.%20The%20baguette%20was%20super%20soft!%20So%20good!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20also%20shared%20the%20French%20toast.%20It%20sounded%20too%20good%20to%20pass%20up-Brioche%20French%20toast%20with%20sweetened%20condensed%20milk%20ice%20cream%20and%20peaches!%20A%20sweet%20way%20to%20start%20our%20day!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENext,%20we%20went%20on%20a%20Friday%20Night%20Lights%20tour.%20Ali%20and%20I%20are%20OBSESSED%20with%20the%20show%E2%80%A6and%20Tim%20Riggins.%20The%20show%20was%20filmed%20in%20Austin%20so%20we%20visited%20a%20few%20of%20the%20spots%20from%20the%20show.%20First,%20we%20drove%20to%20Tim%20Riggin%E2%80%99s%20land.%20It%20might%20not%20look%20like%20much,%20but%20if%20you%20watched%20the%20show,%20you%20know%20how%20epic%20this%20piece%20of%20land%20is:)%20(Address:%207252%20Burleson%20Manor%20Rd.,%20Manor,%20Texas)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20also%20went%20to%20Tim%20and%20Billy%20Riggin%E2%80%99s%20house.%20Tim%E2%80%99s%20truck%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20in%20the%20driveway,%20sad!%20We%20were%20hoping%20to%20run%20into%20%2333!%20(Address:%202604%20Lehigh%20Dr.,%20Austin,%20Texas%2078723)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECoach%20Taylor%E2%80%99s%20house!%20I%20wanted%20to%20knock%20on%20the%20door,%20but%20I%20resisted%20the%20temptation:)%20(Address:%206805%20De%20Paul%20Cove,%20Austin,%20Texas%2078723)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20fun%20to%20visit%20a%20few%20spots%20from%20our%20favorite%20show!%20Texas%20Forever!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThanks%20Old%20El%20Paso%20for%20a%20fun%20trip%20to%20Austin!%20Stay%20tuned%20for%20lots%20of%20fresh%20and%20tasty%20Mexican%20recipes%20this%20year!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDisclosure-we%20are%20partnering%20with%20Old%20El%20Paso%20this%20year%20to%20create%20recipes.%20Old%20El%20Paso%20paid%20for%20my%20trip,%20but%20our%20opinions%20are%20our%20own!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECategories:%20On%20the%20Side%20Travel%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
