Ingredients

  • 1 can (8.75-ounce) crushed pineapple, liquid removed
  • 2 lb Grnd beef
  • 1 lb Grnd pork
  • 1 can (8-ounce) water chestnuts, liquid removed and finely cbopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp Soy sauce
  • 1 x Clove garlic, pressed
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger
  • 2 x Large eggs, beaten
  • 1/3 c. Lowfat milk
  • 1 c. Uncooked oats
  • 3 Tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 c. Brown sugar
  • 1 c. Vinegar
  • 1 1/2 c. Pineapple juice
  • 2 Tbsp. Soy sauce

Directions

  1. Meat balls: Combine all ingredients and shape into small balls. Cook over medium heat in just sufficient oil to cover bottom of a large frying pan. Turn frequently till browned on all sides. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Sweet and sour sauce: Mix cornstarch and brown sugar in a saucepan. Add in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1-1/2 min.
  3. Combine sauce and meat balls and serve in chafing dish. Serve warm.
  4. Meat balls can be made ahead and frzn. Sauce can be cooked a day ahead and reheated for serving. Meat balls may also be served as a main dish if made larger.
