Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees
  2. In small bowl combine cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, flour & salt. Add to apples in large bowl and toss. Put apples in pastry lined pans with apples higher in the middle.
  3. Sprinkle apples with grated lemon peel, dabs of butter or margarine on top. Top with cinnamon sugar.
  4. Put other 1/2 of pastry on top. Pinch together sides. Use a fork, knife, whatever to make holes on top. Or cut into strips to make a lattice crust.
  5. Bake 8 minutes, turn heat down to 350 degrees, bake for another 1/2 hour.

    I made this with my six year old daughter last night; good family recipe, easy to make. Most importantly, it tasted GREAT. I used granny smith apples. The amount of apples suggested made two pies for me (9" crusts). Thanks for sharing!
