  1. Place oil, onion, apple and bay leaf in a saucepan. Cover and simmer on low heat till apple and onion are dissolved (it takes 45 to 60 min). Add in tomatoes and salt, and simmer for another half hour. Add in pepper after removing the pan from the heat.
