  1. Cake:Put egg whites and cream of tartar in a large bowl and beat till foamy.
  2. Add in 1 c. sugar, 2 Tbsp. at a time.
  3. After all sugar added, beat till stiff.
  4. Mix in vanilla.
  5. Sift cake flour, sugar, salt and cocoa.
  6. Fold into the stiff egg whites.
  7. Bake at 375F for 45 to 50 min.
  8. Frosting:Mix and bring to a boil: margarine, cocoa and buttermilk.
  9. Add in vanilla and sufficient powdered sugar to reach spreading consistency.
