Ingredients

  • 2 c. Cake flour
  • 2 Tbsp. Poppy seeds
  • 2 Tbsp. Grnd allspice
  • 1/4 Tbsp. Salt
  • 1 lrg Orange
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 1 c. Unsalted butter room temp
  • 2 lrg Egg yolks
  • 1 c. Powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Cream or possibly lowfat milk (about) Poppy seeds

Directions

  1. Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 350 degrees. Grease heavy large cookie sheets.
  2. Combine flour, poppy seeds, allspice and salt in bowl. Using vegetable peeler, remove peel from orange in strips (reserve orange for another use) and place strips in processor. Add in sugar and process till peel is finely chopped, about 2 min.
  3. Using electric mixer, beat unsalted butter and orange-sugar mix in medium bowl till fluffy. Beat in egg yolks. Add in dry ingredients and beat at low speed till smooth soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer half of dough to pastry bag fitted with large (number 7) star tip. Pipe dough onto prepared sheets in 1-inch mounds, spacing 2 inches apart. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake till cookies are golden brown on top and brown on bottom, about 12 minu
  5. For Glaze: In small bowl, blend powdered sugar with sufficient cream to create smooth medium-thin glaze. Spread glaze over cookies. Sprinkle with poppy seeds. Let stand till glaze sets, 40 min.
