Directions

  1. Set aside 1 cup of flour. In large bowl, mix remaining flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Heat water, lowfat milk, and butter to 125 to 130 degrees (hot to touch). Stir into dry mix. Fold in only sufficient reserved flour to make soft dough. On lightly floured surface, knead for 4 min. Divide dough in half. Roll each into an 8 x 5 inch rectangle. Shape into loaves. Place in two greased 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 1 3/4 inch loaf pans, or possibly on greased baking sheet. Cover. Place loaf pans in large shallow pan which is half-filled with hot tap water, or possibly place baking sheet over large shallow pan which is half-filled with boiling water, for 15 min to raise dough. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 min or possibly till done. Remove from pans and cool on wire rack.
