5 Things To LOVE About Being Pregnant

Credit: Frank de Kleine on Flickr This post is titled “5 Things To LOVE About Being Pregnant” however, an alternative title would be “5 Things I’ll Miss About Being Pregnant” too. You see, I just recently had my very last baby and although the postpartum hormones are raging (like an inferno) with everyday feelings of mourning like “aww this is the last time I’ll have a baby in newborn diapers” and “ooohhh this is the last time I’ll have a first baby bath” and so on and so on and so on (you get the idea) I wanted to take a moment and mourn being pregnant instead. Because let’s be honest besides the morning sickness, heart burn and bladder the size of a peanut – being pregnant kind of rocks.

Food. Glorious food. I don’t know if there’s anything better than indulging yourself in those wonderful, glorious pregnancy cravings. Since I knew this was going to be my very last pregnancy I really let myself have at it. I ate loads of Cobb salads, tons of French fries, boat loads of ice cream and enough chips to sail a ship. And sure I gained an extra 10 pounds more than my other pregnancies but it was worth it. Sooooo worth it.

I will forever miss that over-foodcoma-indulgence because now I’m back to the watching what I eat and the whole eating healthy routine. And it sucks.

Attention

I’m not normally an attention seeking kind of gal (stop laughing I’m not!), but there is something quite special about pregnant momma attention. Strangers lavish it, husbands dish it out, friend’s always show concern and our own mom’s amp it up too. So soak it up while you can preggo momma’s because it’s going to be all about the baby when they arrive and you’ll be chop liver.

Appearance

When I’m not pregnant I’m concerned about the way my flabby is showing everywhere and I’m constantly tugging and shifting and tucking it all in to look acceptable but when you’re pregnant you can just let it all hang out. When you’re pregnant you’re supposed to have a big round belly, when you’re not pregnant having a Buddha belly isn’t so cute. The comfort of just being big and pregnant is what I’ll miss the most.

Anticipation

The anticipation of the baby growing inside of a pregnant mom’s belly is palatable. Feeling the baby move and kick and practice karate is the most wonderful feeling (well, not so wonderful at 2am) that is exclusive to mommy and babies. Knowing that in just 10 months you get to meet your wombmate and the new love of your life is extraordinary.

Food

Food. End of story. Just kidding, I wanted to mention the heightened sense of smell moms have during pregnancy that attributes to why food smells and tastes so good and why life in general smells rosy. I love that heightened sense of smell for all purposes both good and bad. Whether it was stopping to smell the roses (literally) or finding that left over cheese sandwich under the couch before the dog did it always came in so handy.

There are so many things to be thankful for while pregnant and there are so many things you’ll miss. I’ll miss it all, the bigness of my belly, the food, the baby doing cartwheels on my bladder, the food indulgences, the attention, the food and the maternity jeans. Oh and did I mention that I’ll miss the food?
