It is hard to believe that another year is ending and 2014 begins in just two days. Before we look ahead I thought we could take a quick look back at some favorite Chocolate Monday posts of 2013.
It was a wonderful year for discovering new recipes and learning more about converting recipes to gluten-free with some spectacular disasters and crowning achievements. It is like being a beginning baker again and rediscovering the joy of first successes.

%20from%20Whole%20Vine.%20They%20are%20really%20remarkable%20and%20add%20a%20subtle%20aroma%20and%20flavor%20to%20your%20baked%20goods.%20They%20also%20have%20the%20added%20benefit%20of%20naturally%20increasing%20the%20shelf-life%20which%20is%20always%20a%20good%20thing%20plus%20they%20are%20gluten-free.%20Bonus!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Artist%20and%20my%20lives%20were%20changed%20forever%20with%20the%20simple%20concept%20that%20instead%20of%20using%20ice%20cream%20to%20make%20milkshakes,%20use%20gelato!%20We%20have%20gone%20on%20to%20make%20a%20whole%20variety%20of%20new%20versions%20and%20they%20are%20so%20much%20more%20intense%20with%20deep,%20rich%20flavors.%20Truly%20luscious!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20also%20fallen%20in%20love%20with%20white%20chocolate%20thanks%20to%20Guittard.%20I%20had%20only%20had%20cheap%20imitations%20before,%20which%20were%20quite%20distasteful%20to%20me.%20And%20then%20I%20tried%20Guittard%E2%80%99s%20white%20chocolate%20and%20it%20was%20eye%20opening.%20Spending%20more%20for%20a%20high%20quality%20ingredient%20isn%E2%80%99t%20always%20necessary,%20but%20in%20this%20case,%20it%20more%20than%20pays%20for%20itself!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20may%20have%20noticed%20that%20I%20have%20begun%20a%20love%20affair%20with%20bourbon%20%E2%80%93%20in%20my%20cooking%20and%20baking.%20I%20love%20the%20caramel%20notes%20it%20adds%20to%20chocolate.%20If%20you%20are%20Celiac%20or%20have%20extreme%20sensitivity%20to%20gluten,%20you%20should%20use%20wine,%20vodka,%20or%20other%20liquid%20in%20its%20place.%20Contrary%20to%20popular%20belief,%20it%20isn%E2%80%99t%20the%20alcohol%20that%20is%20the%20problem.%20The%20distillation%20process%20takes%20care%20of%20just%20about%20any%20contamination.%20But%20the%20distillers%20often%20add%20caramel%20coloring%20back%20in%20to%20deepen%20the%20color%20and%20that%20is%20usually%20what%20people%20are%20affected%20by.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlmond%20meal/flour%20is%20a%20common%20ingredient%20in%20gluten-free%20baking,%20but%20this%20year%20I%20also%20discovered%20the%20beauty%20of%20hazelnut%20meal.%20It%20is%20a%20little%20richer,%20lends%20a%20deeper%20nut%20flavor,%20and%20more%20color%20to%20your%20baked%20goods.%20And%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20be%20gluten-free%20to%20use%20these%20nut%20meals.%20They%20are%20amazing%20in%20regular%20desserts%20too.%20Try%20replacing%20about%201/2%20cup%20of%20either%20for%201/2%20cup%20of%20your%20regular%20flour.%20It%20is%20that%20simple!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDid%20you%20know%20that%20adding%20high%20quality%20vanilla%20extract%20enhances%20the%20flavor%20of%20chocolate?%20Yes%20indeed.%20And%20have%20you%20discovered%20vanilla%20paste%20yet?%20It%20is%20even%20more%20pronounced%20than%20extract%20and%20includes%20the%20minute%20seeds%20from%20the%20vanilla%20pods.%20So%20if%20you%20are%20making%20vanilla%20custard,%20ice%20cream,%20or%20anything%20pale,%20using%20vanilla%20paste%20will%20give%20you%20the%20look%20and%20flavor%20of%20real%20vanilla%20pods%20at%20a%20fraction%20of%20the%20cost!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThrough%20the%20Secret%20Recipe%20Club,%20I%20was%20able%20to%20introduce%20you%20to%20some%20other%20really%20talented%20food%20writers%20and%20their%20recipes.%20It%20is%20such%20fun%20to%20go%20through%20my%20assigned%20blog%20and%20find%20one%20of%20their%20recipes%20to%20recreate%20and%20share%20with%20you.%20Two%20of%20my%20favorites%20this%20year%20were%20the%20Raspberry%20Brownies%20and%20the%20Samoa%20Caramel%20Cookie%20Tart.%20The%20first%20I%20made%20in%20honor%20of%20my%20mother%20and%20her%20love%20of%20chocolate%20bars%20and%20the%20second%20is%20a%20reinterpretation%20of%20my%20favorite%20Girl%20Scout%20cookie,%20the%20Samoa.%20Having%20to%20work%20with%20someone%20else%E2%80%99s%20recipes%20forces%20us%20out%20of%20our%20comfort%20zones%20and%20expands%20our%20culinary%20visions.%20I%20love%20this%20group!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20was%20a%20little%20girl,%20I%20made%20candy%20with%20my%20grandmother%20Mimi.%20She%20would%20slather%20my%20tiny%20hands%20with%20butter%20and%20we%20would%20pull%20taffy%20until%20it%20became%20opaque%20and%20shiny.%20It%20was%20a%20wonderful%20lesson%20in%20patience%20%E2%80%93%20from%20waiting%20for%20the%20sugar%20syrup%20to%20cook%20to%20the%20correct%20temperature%20and%20letting%20it%20cool%20enough%20to%20handle,%20to%20pulling%20it%20seemingly%20forever%20until%20it%20reached%20the%20correct%20consistency.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20gave%20me%20the%20perfect%20foundation%20to%20try%20a%20couple%20of%20my%20most%20fun%20recipes%20this%20year%20%E2%80%A6%20Homemade%20Snicker%E2%80%99s%20Bars%20and%20Reese%E2%80%99s%20Peanut%20Butter%20Truffles.%20Both%20of%20them%20utilized%20peanut%20butter,%20in%20totally%20different%20ways%20and%20both%20addicting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESee%20the%20little%20flecks%20in%20the%20whipped%20cream%20topping?%20Those%20are%20from%20the%20vanilla%20paste%20that%20I%20used!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20closed%20out%20the%20year%20with%20two%20of%20the%20most%20creative%20and%
