Using ground flaxseed and or chia instead of xanthan and guar gums

I read an article in one of the October magazines from Vitamin Cottage that suggested using ground flaxseed and chia in place of xanthan and guar gums in GF recipes but it didn't give any practicle directions for amounts. Anybody have any ideas?

I never heard of it, but also would love to know more about it. Sounds like a much cheaper alterantive than xanthan gums

What I read from gluten free girl is that you just use a 1:1 substitution with chia. I have bought some chia flour and I have been using it and have been seeing good results.

Thanks for the feedback Yvonne. I've been hesitant to try baking at home because of the cost to retrofit all my supplies and I wasn't really too gung-ho about the idea of having to use the gums when I already have the ground flaxseed and the family is used to my adding it to things.

Rogene,
Thanks for the feedback. I have finally begun to purchase some supplies and am trying to get my nerve up to try baking at home.
