This is my kids favorite meal!!! The only thing I add is 8 cloves of Garlic! Fantastic recipe!!!I've cooked/tasted this recipe!
%20Kloesse--%20but,%20I'll%20stick%20to%20my%20mother's%20deep%20Bavarian%20roots%20and%20I%20call%20them%20%22knoedel%22.%20%20It's%20a%20tongue%20twister,%20if%20you%20don't%20speak%20German.%20%20Never%20mind!%20%20I%20love%20to%20eat%20these%20unique%20%22dumplings%22%20with%20a%20roasted%20pork%20roast%20and%20a%20gravy.%20%20%20I%20made%20this%20dish%20in%20early%20December,%20and%20I%20kept%20procrastinating%20posting%20this.%20The%20truth%20is,%20I%20cooked%20simply%20by%20instinct.%20%20I%20didn't%20measure%20a%20thing,%20and%20I%20wasn't%20sure%20I%20could%20explain%20how%20to%20make%20this.%20It's%20so%20simple,%20to%20me,%20but%20then%20again--%20I%20grew%20up%20with%20this%20dish,%20and%20I've%20made%20it%20many%20times.%20%20I%20had%20used%20half%20of%20a%20boneless%20pork%20shoulder%20roast,%20when%20I%20made%20Transylvanian%20Goulash.%20%20Ideally,%20I%20like%20to%20make%20this%20with%20a%20pork%20loin%20roast.%20%20However,%20I%20improvised%20and%20made%20this%20meal%20in%20about%20an%20hour,%20using%20the%20other%20half%20of%20the%20pork%20loin%20roast--%20let%20me%20show%20you%20how:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20the%20pork%20to%20room%20temperature%20(about%2030-60%20minutes).%20%20Thinly%20sliced%20two%20large%20onions%20and%20drizzle%20a%20little%20bit%20of%20olive%20oil--%20gently%20combine%20to%20distribute%20the%20oil,%20evenly.%20Preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20425F.%20If%20your%20oven%20runs%20really%20hot--%20then%20preheat%20to%20375F.%20Season%20the%20pork%20roast%20with%20kosher%20salt%20&%20pepper.%20If%20desired,%20use%20about%201%20tablespoon%20of%20caraway%20seeds--%20I%20didn't,%20this%20time,%20since%20my%20husband%20isn't%20crazy%20about%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20an%20oven-proof%20skillet%20(or%20a%20Dutch%20oven),%20add%20just%20enough%20olive%20oil%20to%20coat%20the%20pan.%20Crank%20the%20heat%20up%20and%20wait%20for%20the%20oil%20to%20shimmer--%20and%20just%20start%20to%20smoke.%20Go%20for%20it!%20%20Without%20moving%20the%20roast,%20sear%20each%20side%20until%20golden%20brown--%20about%205%20minutes%20per%20side.%20%20Splatter%20shields%20are%20very%20useful,%20because%20it%20does%20make%20a%20bit%20of%20a%20mess--%20but%20it's%20worth%20the%20flavor.%20The%20gravy%20has%20so%20much%20flavor,%20this%20way!%20%20Once%20the%20roast%20is%20evenly%20seared,%20add%20the%20onion%20all%20around%20the%20roast--%20and%20put%20it%20into%20the%20oven%20(uncovered)%20until%20it%20reaches%20between%20145-150F%20(the%20roast%20will%20continue%20to%20cook.)%20%20Depending%20on%20the%20size%20of%20your%20roast,%20this%20can%20take%20an%20average%20of%2040%20minutes.%20A%20thermometer%20is%20invaluable,%20so%20you%20don't%20cook%20the%20pork%20to%20death--%20and%20it's%20turns%20out%20dry.%20%20I%20prefer%20my%20pork%20slightly%20pink,%20contrary%20to%20my%20mother's%20generation%20that%20believed%20you%20had%20to%20cook%20it%20to%20death!%20So%20there!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20the%20roast,%20loosely%20cover%20with%20foil%20and%20set%20aside.%20%20With%20a%20slotted%20spoon,%20remove%20the%20onion%20and%20set%20that%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20sometimes%20wish%20I%20had%20doubled%20the%20onion--%20I%20love%20caramelized%20onion.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20powdered%20mix%20is%20simply%20whisked%20into%20water%20and%20in%20about%2015%20minutes,%20it's%20very%20thick.%20%20This%20is%20not%20rocket%20science...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20used%20an%20ice%20cream%20scoop%20to%20help%20the%20dumplings%20to%20be%20even-sized.%20One%20thing%20my%20mother%20used%20to%20do--%20but%20I%20never%20liked%20it--%20is%20to%20cut%201-2%20slices%20of%20toast%20into%20small%20pieces%20and%20to%20stuff%20them%20in%20the%20middle.%20%20I%20could%20never%20bond%20with%20that,%20but%20go%20ahead%20and%20try%20it.%20%20More%20power%20to%20you!%20My%20husband%20wouldn't%20know%20the%20difference,%20because%20he%20had%20never%20tried%20these%20before.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E20%20minutes%20later...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20do%20I%20describe%20these?%20%20The%20texture%20is%20soft...%20gummy%20(from%20the%20potato%20starch)%20and%20they%20don't%20pack%20a%20ton%20of%20flavor.%20%20So,%20are%20you%20wondering%20why%20I%20love%20these%20so%20much?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E...it's%20the%20sauce.%20%20It's%20the%20art%20of%20knowing%20how%20to%20eat%20this--%20cut%20it%20in%20half,%20then%20into%20a%20few%20more%20bite-sized%20pieces.%20%20Dunk%20it%20in%20the%20sauce...%20oh,%20%20I%20want%20my%20mommy!%20%20I%20just%20love%20these!%20%20I%20would%20have%20loved%20some%20caraway%20in%20this,%20but--%20maybe%20next%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere's%20a%20rhythm%20to%20enjoying%20this%20dish--%20a%20bite%20of%20pork,%20with%20some%20onion%20wrapped%20around%20it--%20a%20bite%20of%20dumpling%20and%20gravy--%20then%20a%20bite%20of%20Bavarian%20Red%20Cabbage.%20%20My%20husband%20really%20liked%20this%20dish,%20and%20it's%20so%20easy!%20%20Sometimes,%20my%20mother%20would%20make%20this%20pork%20roast%20and%20she%20served%20her%20German%20Potato%20Salad%20(still%20warm--%20not%2
