Zeppoles (Donuts Without Holes)

Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 T oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 box raisins
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 to 3 inch skillet or possibly deep fryer)
  • Small paper bag with approximately 2 c. sugar

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in water with 2 tbsp sugar. Add in part of the flour with the salt and mix well. Beat in egg and add in oil. Add in remaining flour and raisins. Let rise for 1 hour. Drop into hot oil with a large spoon, or possibly use your fingers. Donuts will be about 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Fry on both sides, drain on paper towels and then dip into sugar filled bag to coat.
