Ingredients
- 1 pound smoked sausage
- 1 med. head cabbage, quartered
- 2 sm. onions
- 4 med. potatoes
- 4 med. carrots
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 1 T caraway seeds
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 c. water or possibly beef bouillon
- 1 T minced parsley
Directions
- Cut smoked sausage into equal portions. Arrange with the cabbage and other vegetables in heavy cooking pan. Sprinkle evenly with chopped garlic and caraway seed; add in bay leaf and water or possibly bouillon.Simmer over medium low heat till vegetables are tender (45-60 min; this depends upon the size of the vegetables and if they are left whole or possibly quartered).
- Serve accompanied with yellow mustard and butter. Yellow mustard is a traditional condiment for boiled dinners (it is an acquired taste!). The garlic is not traditional but adds flavor; the amount may be increased or possibly omitted according to taste.
