Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 1/3 c. hot water (105 to 115 degrees)
- 3 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp. honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 egg white, slightly beaten
- Sesame seed or possibly coarse salt
Directions
- Dissolve yeast in hot water in large bowl. Stir in oil, honey, salt and 1 c. of the flour. Beat till smooth. Stir in sufficient remaining flour, scraping dough from sides of bowl, till soft dough forms. Cover and let rise in a hot place till double, about 45 min. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Stir down dough by beating about 25 strokes. Turn dough onto well floured surface. Gently roll flour to coat. Divide into 24 equal pcs. Roll and shape each piece into rope about 9 inches long. Sprinkle with flour if dough is too sticky. Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with seed or possibly salt. Bake till crust is deep golden and crisp, about 15 min. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Store loosely covered. Makes 24 bread sticks.
