Ingredients
- 4 c. bread flour
- 2 c. whole wheat flour
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1 ball shortening (about the size of a lg. egg)
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. very hot water
- 3 to 4 more c. hot water
Directions
- Mix together flours, sugar, and salt. Add in shortening and mix. Dissolve yeast in 1 c. very hot water. Mix into flour mix along with about 3 to 4 more c. of hot water.
- Leave dough in mixing bowl. Pat melted butter over top. Cover and let rise in hot place till size doubles, about an hour. Knead with additional flour and make into loaves or possibly rolls. Let rise again till level with top of pan, about 1 1/2 hrs. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 min till browned. Rub butter on top of warm rolls, if you like.
