This is a recipe that I found in a memo book that my great grandmother wrote her recipes in. They are a little sparse in directions and I had to get some handed down information as to how to do some things, but I am in the process of making the first batch of these AWESOME cookies and I hope they turn out even half as good as how my grandma made them... always room to figure it out!
Ingredients
- Part 1:
- 8 c. white sugar
- 2 c. lard or butter
- 2 c. sweet milk (whole milk)
- Dash of salt
- Flour
- Part 2
- 6 eggs
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 3 tsp cardamom
- 3 tsp anise
- Juice of 2 lemons and 2 oranges
- 1 lb ground peanuts
- 1 lb ground walnuts
- 1 Tbs baking soda in a little cold water
Directions
- Boil together Part 1 until the consistency of frosting.
- Let cool and add flour enough flour to make soft dough (stiff cake dough).
- Let freeze 4 to 5 days.
- Thaw out and add Part 2.-
- Dissolve 2 tsp soda in a little cold water and add spices.
- Add eggs, lemon, and orange juices.
- Add to Part 1.
- Add enough flour so you can drop by tsp on baking sheet.
- 300 degree oven for 10 â 12 minutes.
