%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThursday%20was%20the%20big%20grocery%20shopping%20trip%20since%20it%20was%20payday.%20Friday%20morning%20was%20dedicated%20to%20Christmas%20shopping%20(3%20different%20places%20at%20that)%20that%20needed%20to%20be%20done%20before%20the%20weekend.%20Both%20of%20those%20days%20I%20needed%20to%20be%20home%20in%20time%20for%20Abby's%20naptime--and%20then%20to%20be%20at%20the%20bus%20stop%20later.%20So%20those%20days%20I%20needed%20some%20serious%20refueling%20while%20Abby%20was%20sleeping.%20Don't%20ask%20me%20why,%20but%20Thursday%20I%20had%20the%20idea%20of%20an%20omelet.%20And%20it%20was%20goooooooooood!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20two-egg%20omelet%20with%20feta%20cheese,%20green%20onions,%20and%20black%20olives%20topped%20with%20mozzarella%20cheese%20and%20parsley.%20Then%202%20pieces%20of%20buttered%20whole%20wheat%20toast%20on%20the%20side.%20The%20pairing%20of%20feta%20cheese%20and%20eggs%20became%20one%20of%20my%20favorites.%20Wow.%20I%20definitely%20recommend%20it.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20second%20part%20of%20my%20refueling%20came%20after%20Kyleigh%20came%20home%20from%20school%20with%20our%20snack--fruit%20smoothies!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe've%20been%20making%20these%20all%20school%20year%20but%20it%20wasn't%20until%20my%20friend%20asked%20me%20while%20were%20standing%20at%20the%20bus%20stop%20one%20afternoon%20about%20how%20we%20make%20them.%20After%20all,%20depending%20on%20what%20you%20put%20in%20them,%20smoothies%20can%20sometimes%20not%20actually%20be%20too%20good%20for%20ya.%20So%20let's%20talk%20about%20fruit%20smoothies.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOurs%20are%20incredibly%20simple.%20Ice,%20fruit,%20juice.%20That%20might%20sound%20like%20it%20wouldn't%20be%20smooth.%20It%20is.%20Really!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20start%20out%20with%20a%20few%20handfuls%20of%20ice.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20add%20in%202%20frozen%20fruits%20of%20your%20choosing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20add%20in%20a%20banana%20or%20two.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20pour%20in%20some%20orange%20juice%20so%20that%20three%20quarters%20of%20the%20contents%20are%20covered.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20always%20have%20SunnyD%20Smooth%20in%20the%20fridge%20because%20it%20is%20the%20only%20orange%20juice%20Kyleigh%20likes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20this%20is%20the%20juice%20we%20use%20in%20the%20afternoons.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20girls%20and%20I%20like%20to%20use%20a%20variety%20of%20combinations%20of%20frozen:%20pineapple,%20blueberries,%20strawberries,%20and%20peaches.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20putting%20all%20this%20in%20the%20blender%20together,%20hit%20liquefy%20and%20let%20it%20go.%20More%20often%20than%20not,%20I%20do%20have%20to%20add%20more%20juice%20a%20little%20ways%20into%20blending%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20using%20this%20for%20an%20after-school%20snack%20because%20it%20is%20packed%20full%20of%20vitamin%20C--one%20of%20the%20key%20components%20to%20keeping%20healthy.%20C'mon,%20we%20know%20how%20rampant%20colds%20and%20viruses%20are%20in%20school.%20Let's%20hope%20this%20strategy%20works.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20so%20back%20to%20my%20thread%20before%20the%20smoothie%20deviation.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThursday%20and%20Friday%20I%20ate%20a%20two-egg%20omelet%20for%20lunch%20to%20refuel%20and%20enjoyed%20smoothies%20with%20the%20girls%20to%20replenish%20the%20vitamin%20C%20I%20know%20my%20body%20needed.%20Then%20after%20the%20second%20half%20of%20my%20day,%20I%20needed%20a%20way%20to%20unwind.%20And%20a%20discovery%20was%20made.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20this%20tea%20so%20much%20I've%20even%20brought%20some%20out%20to%20the%20bus%20stop%20in%20the%20afternoon%20with%20me.%20And%20I%20find%20it's%20a%20nice%20way%20to%20unwind%20in%20the%20evenings%20once%20the%20girls%20fall%20asleep.%20A%20lot%20of%20the%20spices%20are%20similar%20to%20those%20that%20go%20into%20gingerbread.%20And%20who%20doesn't%20like%20gingerbread??%20You%20should%20try%20it.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20is%20one%20more%20thing%20I'd%20like%20to%20share%20before%20I%20sign%20off%20for%20the%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20a%20lot%20of%20foods%20that%20get%20a%20bad%20wrap.%20All%20you%20have%20to%20do%20is%20hint%20at%20a%20particular%20food%20and%20people%20cringe%20automatically.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOh%20yes,%20I'm%20talking%20about%20the%20most%20notorious%20of%20these%20%22black-listed%22%20foods.%20The%20little%20green%20mini-cabbage%20looking%20veggie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESee%20what%20I%20mean?%20I%20bet%20you%20just%20wrinkled%20your%20nose.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20before%20you%20turn%20away,%20I%20have%20one%20more%20word%20for%20you:%20bacon.%20I%20swear%20I%20just%20heard%20the%20collective%20sigh%20that%20only%20the%20deliciousness%20bacon%20can%20summon.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20why%20not%20use%20the%20delectable%20bacon%20to%20elevate%20the%20cringe-inducing%20brussels%20sprouts?%20I%20came%20across%20a%20recipe%20in%20a%20magazine%20that%20did%20just%20that.%20And%20since%20I%20am%20going%20to%20try%20to%20diversify%20my%20family's%20diet%20in%20the%20new%20year,%20why%20not%20get%20some%20practice%20in%20now?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYeah,%20I%20couldn't%20come%20up%20with%20a%20reason%20either.%20So%20I%20dove%20in%20head%20first.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20enlisted%20help.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlright,%20so%20while%20Nate%20cooked%20the%20bacon,%20I%20prepped%20the%20other%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20included%20thinly%20slicing%20shallots,%20cutting%20the%20tips%20off%20the%20brussels%20sprouts%20and%20removing%20the%20outer%20leaves.%20Then%20in%20a%20small%20bowl%20I%20combined%20the%20brown%20sugar,%20salt%20and%20pepper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20the%20recipe,%20from%20Recipe.com%20magazine:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUse%20a%20paring%20knife%20to%20cut%20out%20a%20cone%20shape%20from%20stem%20end%20of%20each%20sprout.%20Separate%20leaves,%20leaving%20the%20small,%20tender%20centers%20intact;%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20nonstick%20skillet,%20cook%20bacon%20over%20medium%20heat%20until%20crisp,%20about%207%20minutes;%20drain%20on%20paper%20towels%20and%20set%20aside.%20Discard%20all%20but%202%20tablespoons%20bacon%20fat%20in%20skillet.%20Add%20shallots;%20cook%20for%205%20minutes%20until%20softened.%20Add%20sprouts;%20cover%20and%20cook,%20stirring%20occasionally,%20for%206%20to%208%20minutes,%20until%20wilted.%20Add%20bacon,%20nuts,%20sugar,%20salt%20and%20pepper;%20stir%20to%20combine.%20Serve%20immediately.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20was%20unable%20to%20get%20a%20picture%20of%20the%20final%20product.%20And%20this%20is%20the%20kicker.%20My%205-year-old,%20who%20eats%20barely%20anything,%20declared%20she%20LOVED%20the%20Brussels%20sprouts.%20Then,%20get%20this,%20she%20asked%20for%20seconds!!!!!%20I%20know!%20I%20am%20beside%20myself%20too!%20It's%20a%20good%20thing%20she%20couldn't%20see%20my%20face%20when%20she%20stated%20these%20things%20because%20she%20would%20have%20second-guessed%20her%20thoughts.%20I%20near%20about%20fell%20outta%20my%20chair%20when%20she%20asked%20for%20more.%20Really?%20Really?!%20REALLY?!?!%20Wow,%20guess%20I%20did%20something%20right.%20haha%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20I%20think%20I've%20made%20this%20post%20long%20and%20shocking%20enough.%20:)%20Till%20next%20time!!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
