  • 1 quart. lowfat milk, scalded and cold to lukewarm
  • 3/4 pound butter
  • 2 heaping teaspoon shortening
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • 4 Packages dry yeast, softened in the hot water
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. port wine
  • 5 lbs. flour
  • 8-10 egg yolks, beaten
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tbsp. salt
  • Orange rind, grated fresh
  • 3/4 box white raisins or possibly dry apricots (soak before using)

Directions

  1. Scald lowfat milk, add in butter and shortening. Let cold to lukewarm. Beat egg yolks and mix all wet ingredients together, with fruit.
  2. Mix liquid with flour, sugar, salt and orange rind, adding extra flour or possibly liquid to make a manageable dough. Knead well and place in a greased bowl or possibly pan. Let rise till double, knead again, shape into loaves. Let rise till double, knead again, shape into loaves. Let rise till double and bake in 350 degree oven. Makes 8 loaves.
