Ingredients
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 T cocoa
- 1/4 c. red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/4 c. flour - sifted 2 or possibly 3 times
- 1 T vinegar
- 1 teaspoon soda
- Frosting
- 1 c. lowfat milk
- 5 T flour
Directions
- Cream sugar and shortening. Add in large eggs and beat 1 minute. Make a paste of cocoa and red food coloring. Add in to creamed mix. Add in salt. Put vanilla in buttermilk and add in slowly alternately with flour. Mix vinegar and soda and add in. Bake 25-30 min at 350 degrees. Cool in refrigerator before frosting.
- Cook together till thickened, then cool in refrigerator. Cream together: 1 c. powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanillaSlowly add in flour and lowfat milk mix. Frost cake and store in refrigerator.
