Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 c. red food color
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 T cocoa
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar

Directions

  1. Cream together shortening and sugar. Add in large eggs, beating 1 minute. Add in salt. Mix vanilla in buttermilk. Add in alternately with flour. Add in food coloring and cocoa. Put vinegar and soda into a cup. Mix and add in to cake batter.Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 min in two round cake pans. Cool and remove from pans. Frost with Red Velvet Icing.
