Directions

  1. preheat oven to 350°F.Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, put together all ingredients in the order given (i.e., flour, sugar, baking pwdr, allspice, soda, cinnamon, cloves, soup, shortening, large eggs and water).
  2. With mixer at low speed, beat till well mixed, constantly scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Turn to high speed and continue to beat 4 more min, stopping occasionally to scrape down sides of bowl.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake 35 to 40 min or possibly till a wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  4. Cool in pans on wire racks for 10 min. Carefully remove from pans, then allow to cool completly. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
  5. Garnish with strawberries and mint, if you like.
  6. Tip: Instead of using just shortening, mix together equal parts of shortening with butter and the cake will be moist and have added flavor.
