Today I’m taking a break from the regular recipes to share with you how quick and easy it is to start YOUR own blog! There are so many resources that are out there today, far more than there were back in the olden days when I started, but in case you are looking to start a blog I’m here to point you in the right directions! Blogging has changed my life and allowed me a creative outlet plus the opportunity to earn extra money for my family that gives us a little breathing room. No, it’s not easy to build up a blog but if you have the desire and commitment it’s totally achievable!

Reasons to choose Bluehost for your WordPress blog!

EASY to use! Bluehost makes it so easy to start and create your WordPress blog that ANYONE can do it!

Bluehostoffers techinical support

Bluehost is incredibly affordable and they offer cheap web hosting. It’s perfect for starters! It’s only $3.49 a month.

You get a FREE blog domain. We all love FREE!

WordPress through Bluehost is FREE!

Bluehost offers a guarantee in case you determine that it’s not for you. Peace of mind!

You will be self-hosted which is want you want when you want to monetize your blog!

You will appear professional to readers, companies and so on if you are self-hosted on Bluehost rather than being on another option like Blogspot.

LET’S GET STARTED!

1) DOMAIN NAME AND HOSTING!

Start dreaming up that perfect name for your blog!

I usually see that this tends to be the hardest part of actually starting your blog. My domain name is julieseatsandtreats.com. I literally didn’t think much about this because when I started blogging I had no idea how valuable that name was. It was going to become my online presence. In retrospect I’m kind of glad I didn’t know or I would have stressed over it a lot more than I did! You can purchase you domain name through Bluehost.

Next up is the plan level. I’d suggest the Start Plan, which is paid all at once instead of monthly, but it will save you a bunch of money.

Next up you will also need to host your domain. Hosting is kind of like renting space on the web to display your blog. Bluehost has great rates for hosting and also gives you your domain for free if you decide to host with them!

Who can pass up a good deal? Not me!

Below you can see what I use for package information settings.

The Domain Privacy Protection shields your personal address and phone number from being displayed to the public. I recommend that.

2) INSTALLING WORDPRESS

Great job so far! After you complete your registration with Bluehost you’ll need to go through the process of installing WordPress.

WordPress is a blogging software and it is what I use on julieseatsandtreats.com It’s ridiculously easy to use for beginners and simple to install on your website.

Here’s How:

On the next page simple click the “Start” button.

Select your domain and then click the “Check Domain” button.

Almost there!

Next up you need to check the terms and conditions box and then click “Install Now”

When you see a message that says, “Your install is complete!” you’ll want to click on the “View Credentials” button and write down Admin URL, Username, and Password. You can change these to something more memorable later, but you’ll need them for your first time logging in.

That’s it! You’ve logged into your very own blog!!! YAY!!! HAPPY DANCE!

3) MAKING IT PRETTY

Now that we have preformed the happy dance because you have your very own blog we need to make it pretty!

Next step is to pick your theme! WordPress has a ton of themes to pick from and it can be slightly overwhelming. You can scan through the options here.

If you’re looking for a premium theme here are a few to check out:

The Thesis Theme – One of the most popular themes.

The Genesis Framework – If you choose this framework you’ll also want to look into the available StudioPress Themes, like the very popular Foodie Theme.

Elegant Themes – This is the most economical choice. It’s easy to use and has quite a few options
