Ingredients
- 12 x green tomatoes
- 1 med head of cabbage
- 7 med white onions
- 12 x green bell peppers
- 6 x red bell peppers
- 1/2 c. salt
- 6 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. celery seed
- 2 Tbsp. mustard seed
- 1 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 4 c. pure apple vinegar
- 2 c. water
Directions
- Grind tomatoes, cabbage, onions, green peppers and red peppers into large pan. Add in salt and let stand overnight. Rinse and drain. Put into large kettle.
- Add in remaining ingredients, heat to boiling. Boil for 8 min, stirring constantly. Pour into warm sterilized jars; process pints in boiling water bath for 15 min. Let stand at least 2 weeks before opening.
- Makes 7 pintsFor Warm Chow Chow, add in 10 warm peppers and 1 Tbsp. cayenne pepper.
