This is a classic family recipe passed down through the generations. I don't have exact measurements for everything because most things are just "eye balled".
Ingredients
- 2 quarts canned tomatoes
- 1 green pepper - chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 - 3 cloves garlic - minced
- 1 onion - chopped
- 3 celery stalks - sliced
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups mushrooms - sliced
- 1 to 3 cans of tomato paste (this depends on how long you boil it down and the consistency you prefer)
- basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, salt, pepper to taste
Directions
- Brown beef with onions and garlic
- Drain off fat
- Add tomatoes and seasonings - bring to a boil
- Add green peppers, celery and mushrooms
- Simmer over low to medium heat to let the sauce boil down
- The longer you simmer the less tomato paste you have to add and the better the flavors are
- Add tomato paste and bring to a boil, mixing well
- Serve over pasta and top with parmesan cheese or shredded cheddar or mozzarella if desired.
