Sourdough Applesauce Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 c. starter
  • 1/4 c. dry powdered lowfat milk
  • 1 c. white flour
  • 1 c. applesauce

Directions

  1. Let sit in covered bowl in hot place while you cream the next mix. 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon allspice 1/2 teaspoon cloves 2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 c. minced nuts and/or possibly raisins
  2. The night before: Mix starter, 2 c. flour and 2 c. water. Let set overnight.
  3. The next day: Save out 1 c. starter to put back in the refrigerator. Use the remaining starter for the recipe.
  4. Mix starter, powdered lowfat milk, flour and applesauce and set aside. Cream together white and brown sugars, and butter. Add in egg, spices, raisins and nuts. Add in sourdough mix and stir by hand about 100 strokes. Bake in 7x11, 8x8 or possibly 9x9 pan (greased). Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30-40 min. Test for doneness with toothpick. Allow to cold in the pan. Does not need frosting.
