This is an easy recipe that I've been making since I was about 14. I made it last night because I was pressed for time, and all of my kids said they liked it better than regular pizza. Simple can still be delicious!

  • 2 16oz loaves of fresh French Bread (we use the Sourdough variety baked fresh at Safeway and other supermarkets).
  • 12oz of Trader Joe's tomato-basil marinara (or any high quality marinara sauce)
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 6 oz fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 3 oz fresh Parmesan cheese
  • 1-2 tsp dried, crushed oregano
  • Any other possible toppings you like!

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F or 350F on convection setting.
  2. Slice the french loaves in half lengthwise (see picture). Turn so that the cut sides are both facing up and place on two baking sheets.
  3. Spread the marinara equally over each half.
  4. Cut the ripe tomatoes into small chunks and place evenly on the bread.
  5. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly on both halves, followed by the parmesan, and finally the oregano.
  6. Place both the baking sheets in an oven at 375 F and bake for approx. 10 minutes. (I bake at 350 in a convection oven, so I can put the trays on different levels without worrying about uneven cooking.
  7. Remove the pizza, slice into 2 inch pieces, and serve!
  8. We serve with a fresh green salad.

Our pizza's turned out great and it tasted so much better than our local pizza parlors in the area. We made it two days in a row. Thanks John!

I love pizza however it is. I enjoy it on different doughs or bread too. I make my own dough, and sure can make something like this too. Looks tasty!

When I saw this recipe I thought why havent I thought of that before. My husband & I are going to the farmers market this sunday to get a variety of ingredients. I going to use pesto, mozzarella, provolone, tomatoes, and pine nuts. Yum!
