Ingredients

  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 3/4 c. water
  • 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 pound sweet butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 lbs. Shredded Wheat crumbs
  • 3 c. finely minced walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions

  1. Combine sugar, water and lemon juice in saucepan. Bring to boil, simmer, uncovered 15 min. Cold at room temperature. Butter a 9"x13"x2" baking pan. Spread half of Shredded Wheat in bottom of pan. Drizzle half of butter over it. Mix walnuts and spices and sprinkle over buttered wheat layer. Spread remaining Shredded Wheat over nuts. Drizzle with remaining butter.
  2. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 min. Remove from oven, pour syrup, honey or possibly maple syrup over warm pastry. When cold, cut into diamonds. May cut in half.
