A Ukrainian favorite. In my opinion they are best just out of the oven.

Ingredients
- 1 PK DRY YEAST
- ½C WARM WATER
- 3T SUGAR
- ½ LB UNSLATED BUTTER
- 3T CRISCO
- 3 EGG YOLKS
- ½C MILK
- 1T SOUR CREAM
- 1C FLOUR with 1C SUGAR
- 2 EGG WHITES
- 1C GROUND WALNUTS
- 1/4 C SUGAR
Directions
- Completely dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over sugar water and let rise ~ 10 min.
- Beat Butter and Crisco with an electric mixer until well blended.
- Beat eggs till creamy, slowly adding milk and sour cream
- Slowly add egg and milk mixture to butter mixture.
- With a wooden spoon, mix flour into mixture until absorbed.
- Wrap in plastic and refrigerate overnight.
- In a bowl mix together the 1 cup Flour and 1 Cup Sugarâ this will be the mixture you roll the balls of dough onto.
- Place Egg Wites in a glass bowl and beat until peaks form. Set to the side.
- Mix Ground Walnuts and Sugar in a small bowl and set to the side.
- Break off tennis ball size amount of dough and flatten into a disc.
- Roll out on flour sugar mixture a 9-10 inch circle of dough.
- Cut like a pie into 8 triangles, place ½ tsp jam on wide den of triangle. Flap dough over jam and roll to the point. Dip into egg whites then into ground walnuts.
- Place on greased baking sheet and curve the ends in to make a crescent shape.
- Bake at 350* oven for about 20 minutes (depending on your oven) until golden, on the bottom. Store Rohalyky in an air tight container. These freeze well.
